Fame had given Hugh Jackman everything—awards, fans, red carpets—but he was searching for something more meaningful. That “something” appeared not in Hollywood, but on a small coffee farm in Ethiopia.
It was 2009 when Jackman met Dukale, a hardworking farmer raising his family in a rural village. The encounter was part of a humanitarian trip with World Vision, but it became something far deeper. As Jackman watched Dukale work—hands weathered from years of labor, yet eyes bright with hope—he realized that the man’s biggest dream wasn’t wealth or fame. It was fairness.
Dukale wanted a simple thing: for his coffee to be sold at a fair price, so he could educate his children and build a sustainable future.
That conversation stayed with Hugh long after he returned to New York. He couldn’t shake the image of Dukale’s smile—the quiet pride of a man who had so little but gave so much. So, he decided to act.
He founded Laughing Man Coffee, a fair-trade company that sources coffee directly from farmers like Dukale. Every dollar of profit goes back into supporting local education, community development, and small farmers’ livelihoods.
“It started with one farmer,” Hugh often says. “But it became a mission—to make every cup of coffee mean something good.”
Through his brand, Hugh Jackman has built more than just a business—he’s built bridges. Farmers now have fair wages, children have access to schooling, and entire communities have hope that stretches beyond a single harvest.
Even before Laughing Man, Hugh’s heart for service was clear. Since the age of eight, he’s sponsored children through World Vision. Later, he became their global ambassador, using his fame not to promote movies—but to promote kindness.
In 2013, he led the Live Below the Line challenge, inspiring over 4,000 Americans to experience life on a $1.50-a-day budget—raising more than $440,000 for those living in extreme poverty.
From Wolverine’s claws to a barista’s apron, Hugh Jackman’s greatest transformation didn’t happen in a movie. It happened in real life—where compassion brewed stronger than coffee.
He often says, “Success means nothing unless you use it for others.”
